How a Five-Year-Old Inspired Good Soil Flowers
Some businesses begin with a business plan. Ours began with a five-year-old girl, a handful of flowers, and a dream far bigger than her age.
Good Soil Flowers was inspired by Eno Arvin, a child who lights up every time she sees a bouquet—whether it’s in a grocery store, on a restaurant table, or growing wild beside the sidewalk. When she announced one afternoon that she wanted to own her very own flower shop, we didn’t expect it to become a family calling. But something about her conviction felt true, like a seed landing exactly where it was meant to grow.
So, we said yes.
And with that yes, our little family stepped into the world of floristry, without formal training, without industry credentials, and without the “perfect timing” that people often wait for. What we did have was a desire to nurture our daughter’s creativity, to model meaningful work for our children, and to build something together that serves our home, our neighbors, and our community.
Growing a Floral Business From the Ground Up
We are learning as we go, hands in the dirt, tutorials playing in the background, buckets of flowers filling our kitchen counters. We are discovering color palettes, experimenting with design, practicing our craft alongside our children. And with each arrangement, we’re reminded that growth rarely begins with expertise; it begins with willingness.
Our daughter’s dream invited us into a new rhythm of family life: early-morning flower market trips, foraging throughout Oakland, deliveries across the East Bay, and a home that constantly smells like eucalyptus and sweet peas. There is something sacred about building a business alongside your children, letting them see the effort, the joy, the mess, and the meaning.
Why We Call Ourselves “Good Soil”
Our name reflects what we hope to cultivate: good ground, a place where good things can take root and flourish.
As parents, we believe that children grow best when they can witness purpose, creativity, and service lived out right in front of them. A business, especially one built around beauty and generosity, became the perfect soil for that growth.
And flowers, in all their simplicity and splendor, remind us that God’s creation holds everything we need to enrich the environments we live in. Whether it’s a bouquet for a wedding, a small arrangement for the kitchen table, or a single stem given just because, flowers help us pay attention to the good around us.
Bringing Beauty to the Community We Love
Good Soil Flowers now delivers arrangements throughout Oakland, San Leandro, Alameda, Berkeley, and beyond. Every bouquet we create is an extension of our family, handcrafted with care, intention, and a genuine desire to bring a little more warmth into the lives of our neighbors.
We may be new to the floral world, but what we lack in experience, we make up for in heart. And we’re growing, day by day, stem by stem, just like the dream that started it all.
A Family Dream, Shared With You
Our journey is still young, and we’re grateful for every person who chooses to support a small, family-run business planted by a child’s imagination. When you order from Good Soil Flowers, you’re not just buying flowers, you’re helping nurture a dream, encouraging creativity, and investing in a community built on home, faith, purpose, and love.
